Who we are

TJ Barber (also trading as TJ Barber & Tan) is a barbershop at 177 Coast Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE7 7RR. We are the data controller for the information described here.

For anything on this page, email [email protected] or call 07442 342340.

What we collect, and when

When you book online. Your name, mobile number, email address, and any note you add to the booking, along with the service, barber and time you chose. We need these to hold the chair and to contact you if something changes.

When you pay a deposit. The card payment is handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach us: we keep only a reference to the payment, the amount and whether it succeeded.

When you use the contact form. Your name, email, phone number if you give one, and your message. It is emailed to the shop so we can reply, and it is not added to any list.

When you walk in. Nothing. There is no need to give us anything to sit in the chair.

We do not use advertising trackers, and there are no analytics cookies on this site. The only cookie we set is a sign-in cookie for our own staff, and only on the staff pages.

Why we are allowed to hold it

To provide the appointment you asked for, which is the contract between us, and to run the shop properly: keeping a record of what was booked, what was paid and who came in.

We do not send marketing emails. If that ever changes we will ask you first, and you will be able to say no without losing your booking.

Who else sees it

Our barbers. Tony and Jess can see the bookings in the diary, on the web and in the staff app on their phones. That is the point of it.

Stripe processes deposit payments and holds the card details we never see.

Resend sends your confirmation email, so it handles your email address and the booking details in that message.

Railway hosts this website and the database the bookings sit in.

Mapbox draws the map on the contact page. Loading that map tells Mapbox your approximate location and browser. It only loads on pages that show a map.

We do not sell your details to anyone, and never will.

How long we keep it

Bookings stay on file so we know your history when you come back, which is how we remember the cut you liked. If you would rather we did not, say so and we will remove it.

Payment records are kept for six years, because HMRC requires it of any business.

What you can ask us to do

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • Tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete it.
  • Stop using it for a particular purpose.

Email [email protected] and we will sort it within a month, usually much sooner. It is a small shop, not a call centre.

If you think we have got it wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you told us first so we can fix it.

The staff app

Our barbers use an iPhone app to see the diary. It is for staff only: there is no customer sign-up, and it shows the same booking details they would see on the shop computer.

It stores a sign-in token on the barber's phone and registers that phone to receive a notification when a booking lands. It collects nothing from the phone itself and contains no advertising or tracking of any kind.

Any questions, just ask.

We would rather explain it than have you wondering.
